Indoor Cycling Cancelled Wednesday Morning, August 26

There will be no indoor cycling Wednesday morning from 6:45-7:45 am on August 26. However the new indoor cycling class for Wednesday evenings will start that day, 6:30-7:30 pm.

The following week classes will resume as normal. In September we will be adding more indoor cycling classes to our schedule, and we will let you know as soon as those begin.

Three New Classes at the YFC!

Starting next week, there will be three new classes available at the YFC (in addition to what we already offer--check out the calendar at the bottom of the page see everything we have). They are as follows:

Power Core Pilates
Mondays: 6:00-7:00 pm
Instructor: Megan Davis

In this new Pilates class you will do exercises which teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, as well as aim to strengthen the deep torso muscles. In addition there will be toning and sculpting with hand weights. This class is appropriate for all fitness levels.

Intro to Indoor Cycling
Wednesdays: 6:30-7:30 pm
Instructor: Gina Mieir

Indoor Cycling has finally arrived at the YFC! Learn the fundamentals of riding, proper technique and form, as well as how to set up your bike for a fun and injury-free time. The first six weeks will be focused on building a solid aerobic base and experience riding on flats and climbing hills. These classes are open to all fitness levels, from the complete novice to the next Lance Armstrong. Join us as we grow both physically and spiritually together!

Boot Camp
Fridays: 11:45-12:30
Instructor: Tracy Stephens

Boot camp incorporates a variety of drills into circuit training to create a class which challenges both your muscular endurance and cardiovascular systems.
Tuesdays and Thursdays Boot Camp is split into an advanced group, led by Maudia Kistler, and a beginner group, led by Tracy Stephens. Due to the popularity of this program, Friday afternoons Tracy will teach an additional Boot Camp for all fitness levels and abilities.

Aerobics Classes Updates

There are two very important updates that we need everyone to be aware of. The first is that we have a NEW PILATES CLASS starting next Monday, the 24th, from 6:00-7:00 pm. The instructor is the very talented Megan Davis (who used to co-teach Kick and Core Wednesday nights). The class is called Power Core Pilates and the description is as follows:

In this new Pilates class you will do exercises which teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, as well as aim to strengthen the deep torso muscles. In addition there will be toning and sculpting with hand weights. This class is appropriate for all fitness levels.

The other update is in regards Living Well Yoga. Greg McCann, the instructor, must unfortunately postpone the class indefinitely due to scheduling issues with where he works. As soon as he is able to work those issues out, he will be available again to teach. Keep checking in on our blog for the most up to date information, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

How to Reserve Your Spot for Indoor Cycling

We've received lots of questions at the YFC about how to reserve a spot for the Indoor Cycling classes this week, as demand is high but we have only 16 bikes.

Thirty minutes before the class is scheduled to begin, you can reserve a spot by signing your name on a special Indoor Cyling sign-in sheet which will be available at the Welcome Desk. You can also call the YFC (592-3862 ext. 340) to find out if spots are remaining and ask the Welcome Desk worker to put your name down on the sign-in sheet.

Try to arrive in the craft room (where the class will take place) about 10 minutes early so we can start getting you set up on your bike. This will allow us to start in as timely a way as possible.

If worst comes to worst and you find that you've come all the way to the YFC and there are no spots left in the class, you can still work out in our awesome fitness room.

Gina Mieir and Joy Hancock, the current indoor cycling instructors, just returned from a Spinning instructor training program in Overland Park, KS. We learned a lot about how to run an effective and fun Indoor Cycling program, and we can't wait to share what we've learned with you. We're looking forward to seeing you this week! Remember: to keep most up to date on our class schedules, subscribe to this blog or follow us on Twitter.
